As early as March of this year, the Obama administration will launch a plan for scientific efforts directed at mapping the human brain and understanding its inner workings. The Office of Science and Technology Policy will organize the project, but it will ultimately involve several federal agencies, private foundations, and many scientists. The project could ultimately yield findings relevant to understanding diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and a host of other mental illnesses.
