Alabama Law Would Close 3/5 of State’s Abortion Clinics; ACLU & Planned Parenthood File Suit

A new Alabama law, which parallels measures passed in both North Dakota and Mississippi, would require any doctor performing an abortion to have admitting privileges at a local hospital. The law would cause the shut-down of 3 out of 5 clinics in the state that perform abortions. Supporters claim that the measure will protect patients in emergencies; detractors claim that the law is both medically unnecessary and unconstitutional.
