22 “Probable” Cases of Mumps in NJ

A possible mumps outbreak, which may have originated at a popular bar on the Jersey shore, has been identified recently. Health officials in Monmouth County found that twenty-one adults and one child may be afflicted with mumps, after almost all of the patients had either worked or been patrons in D’Jais Bar and Grill in Belmar. Mumps causes swelling of the glands, fever, loss of appetite and fatigue. The patients have been advised to stay in bed and drink more fluids. The health officials continue to investigate the source of the infection.
