Director-General of the Department of Disease Control (DDC), Sopon Mekthon, stated that the worst epidemic of dengue fever in 20 years has hit Thailand, infecting 135,344 people. More than 7,500 cases per week were reported to the DDC in June. Now, however, approximately 2,000 cases per week are reported to the DDC. Dengue fever is a public health concern in over 100 countries worldwide; though commonly found in tropical regions, dengue fever has spread to non-tropical countries.
